ARE WESTERN POPULATIONS BEING TOLD ONE LIE AFTER ANOTHER ON UKRAINE?
Does journalism still exist within the western mainstream on subjects relating to western states’ vital interests?
Do the fundamental principles of independent, impartial investigation, analysis and reporting still prevail?
Or, is all of the above dispensed with when western national interests are at stake?
And does any of this matter to the majority of western populations? Do they care what happens in lands far away from them except to hope that “we” win and that the “good guys” we are “helping” win? Is this all that matters if it matters at all?
Meanwhile we have the BBC, CNN and all others in the western mainstream acting as channels for western states. I answer my own question here but I suspect you had come to the same conclusion yourself. It is hardly in doubt I would say. A glance at the BBC News Online page tells you this instantly. The impartiality the BBC prides itself on is totally absent.
This is the result of a clear and obvious movement within western mainstream news broadcasting that began after the end of the Vietnam war was hastened by a significant degree of accurate reporting by western journalists via their employers. The efforts of western states, especially the USA, to ensure that such a thing never happens again, (through the embedding of journalists with troops), is partly responsible for the dire state of western journalism in the mainstream today, or rather for its extinction.
9/11 delivered the death blow to that journalism when it came to geopolitical events where western states had vital interests. 9/11 ended whatever still existed of fundamental journalistic principles by making it virtually unthinkable to criticise state decision making and foreign policy.
In the United Kingdom government actions against the BBC and The Guardian made it ultimately very clear that criticism of western government foreign policies and the regime change wars that followed from them would have severe consequences. Both then became compliant stenographers for western state talking points.
The campaign against Vladimir Putin and Russia has been the most obvious feature of the new policies taken by western state-funded and corporate news outlets in the West. Since at least 2007 with his Munich speech avowing Russia’s determination to see a multipolar world rise rather than a convenient dictatorship of the western powers, he has been the target of myriad hit pieces and lurid magazine covers depicting him.
9/11 spawned the West’s determination that only a unipolar world with them in charge was acceptable, that only a world they were in full charge of could bring them the safety they needed and that therefore all individuals, governments, regimes and entities not fully compliant with the West must be eliminated. Putin stood up in Munich in 2007 and volunteered himself as spokesman for all those the West aimed to remove and replace.
Western mainstream news, already fully compliant with anything the USA saw as necessary in the aftermath of 9/11 got onboard with this policy that they saw as leading to their own ability to dominate the worlds of newsprint and TV, global news broadcasting. The political and media elites saw common cause and so it has been ever since.
This is why we have seen the death of true, independent journalism in the West. This is why we have the kind of reporting we see now in the West on Ukraine. And this is why unless the vast majority of western populations wake up and realise what has happened they will continue to be easily conditioned into believing one lie after another.
