He is uncompromising and single-minded. No one will tell him he can't do certain things. He insists he will decide what he can and can't do and no one else. How can you reason with a man like Trump?
It has become clear that Donald Trump does not feel he should be restrained in any way. Just as he would not be when running a business entirely his. The concept of checks and balances whereby presidents, nor any other part of the executive have full and untrammeled power, are needed to regulate the system as a whole. That the various rules and limitations are there for good reasons simply does not occur to him, or at the most only in passing.
Trump sees past agreements made before he came into office as mere areas of hindrance to him having a clean slate on which to draw his own vision. He is used to running the show, for better or worse, profit or loss, incredible success or total disaster. The iconic song Sinatra made famous could have been written for him. He doesn’t see why he should do things any other way than HIS way. And now that he has the still massive power of the USA at his disposal he sees no reason whatsoever why he shouldn’t use it to the absolute maximum.
Donald Trump’s time as president will be seen as a complete anomaly when compared with those presidents who came before and those who come after. He is very aware he is a one off and he’s proud of the fact. He sees no problem in having an unlimited ego. He now has this one chance that can’t now come again (though he’d arrange another time round if he could). He is going to go for it, whatever it is, take Greenland, bomb Iran, and invade Cuba, Colombia and Nicaragua if he has a mind to. He puts no limits on himself. This is surely clear to everyone by now.
The chances are good to certain that by the time Trump’s second term comes to an end it will be seen as a disaster. Not by all of course. The grassroots, Trump and only Trump support base will be with him till the end. But with a no limit budget and a national debt more than likely well over 42 trillion by the time he leaves office it’s difficult to see how his term will end in unmitigated glory. He can’t stop China’s rise, nor the rise of Russia or India. Regarding Europe it is within his power to deliver a virtual death blow to the nations harboring a nest of political vipers that he knows loathe him like no other.
Trump represents a bomb going off in the middle of politics as usual in the USA. He sees no merit in the fabric woven over centuries that was designed to maintain balance. He has no interest in that. He is the director, essentially to all intents and purposes he feels himself to be the dictator of America while he holds the presidency. No one can tell him different. He has only scorn for detail and for those who might have the temerity that he can’t do this or can’t do that because of this or that rule. He is Donald Trump. He runs this place. And he’ll do what he likes.
