HOW CAN SO MANY PEOPLE GET UKRAINE SO COMPLETELY WRONG?

Don’t take my word for it. Just wait a week or two, at the most three and I think you will agree with what may appear to be a preposterous statement above. 

The ‘many people’ I am referring to compose almost the entirety of Europe and the USA. The rest of the world is largely uninterested and mostly just going about their business. But in Europe and the USA it is Ukraine front, left, right and centre and the biggest deal of all time almost. And I’m saying almost all those people are living a delusion concerning Ukraine.

I expect you will agree quite soon, as and when certain events occur one after another in a matter of weeks.

But it’s not really about the present, it’s mostly about the past. It appears to me that almost all of Europe and the USA know next to nothing about Ukraine, about what's going on there now or most importantly any detail on what has happened between Russia and Ukraine in the past.

What they know is a passion play of good and evil where there's a good side and a bad side. Their emotions have been well and truly played, their heartstrings energetically plucked and their minds pummelled into shape by repetition into the required shape. Knowledge of any particular detail was NOT required. Basically you had, "Here is this great wrong by Russia!" Cue weeping. "Here is a building on fire. This was done by Russia!" Cue wailing. "Here is a school and her is a hospital. Both destroyed by Russia!" Cue anger. Rinse and repeat. Over and over and over.

This emotional conditioning accompanied by earnest voices talking in disapproving tones about atrocities (information fed by activists of course and channelled as fact) serious people commentating and agreeing on just how wrong this all is of Russia and so on. Endlessly. Cue songs for Ukraine. Cue waterfalls of sympathy for Ukrainians. Cue fund raising and banners, protests and constant talk of what a monster Putin is. It's a bubble, a sphere of confined group thought constantly feeding on itself. No contrary thoughts or information is allowed in this opaque, spherical confinement with two poles within it. Love Ukraine. Hate Russia. Simple and kept simple.

No reflection. No need to look for a reason Russia did what it did. It was evil, Russia is evil and that's all there is to say about that. Look no further. You've solved it for yourself. End of story.

Only... reality is going to come back into play and bite all those caught up in the almighty bubble of frozen thought processes sooner or later. Suddenly a shock will arrive from outside that 'solved' universe of shallow delusionary certainties. At least it should. Though there will be plenty of commentators, pundits, observers and so-called journalists on hand to guide you to a more comfortable landing where you can still hate Russia... nut for other reasons now.

This is where the idea that all will be revealed falls down. No matter what realities emerge contradicting the assumed certainty on Ukraine the propensity will be to favour disbelief and then have all and sundry within the mainstream tell you you are right to stay in the hate Russia cocoon and just listen to us rather than do any actual research. Heaven forbid you should ever get the notion to do any of THAT!
