The most powerful, and most easily affordable weapon for nations against an enemy is mass media.
It is becoming less and less sensible for most nations to spend exorbitant amounts of money on weapon systems that are becoming ever more redundant as a means to gain power over others.
Some may argue that weapons are MORE relevant now than ever but I would disagree. I would concede however that they will remain and that they will be increased. But I would argue that after the disastrous consequences for the USA in its regime change wars in the Middle East, with their attendant losses in terms of blood and treasure, other means are being pursued more actively now.
The USA is now concluding its hot war in Afghanistan which for twenty years it was fought to a virtual standstill with every indication those it fought for so long will once again take power within six months at the outside.
Now I would agree with you if you say that the USA never learns from its mistakes but I suspect this time, at least temporarily, it appears to have paused a while and taken stock, at least partially.
It’s not that the newly favored weapon of mass media propaganda is new in and of itself. It is indeed quite an old weapon, perfected to some degree by the Nazis and honed to something near to perfection by the CIA during Operation Mockingbird after the war. But that near perfection has been worked on extensively now by incorporating new technologies and methodologies and by the recruitment of highly-skilled specialists from the West’s universities.
An entire industry of war mode propagandists has been created, exemplified arguably by teams such as Bellingcat, a cut out posing as an independent grouping. These groups are part of a novel matrix which is interlinked with and spans the entire western intelligence field. The impetus for this network was 9/11. Virtually unlimited funds generate continual innovation and campaigns, research, invasive surveillance and influence-mongering. Its priority status is of the highest and government administration staff, analysts of all disciplines, civil servants, military chiefs and heads of department outside its scope are essentially of lower status and must bow to the priorities raised by those at the front line of this new war occasioned largely by the events on 9/11 2001.
If you watch mainstream news on any medium whether it be via radio, on a television or phone you are hearing pretty much directly from this network as these entities are within it. How could they not be? Do you really think that during a war they would be left to their own devices?
Do you doubt we are in a war?
It has been ongoing since at least 2007 when Vladimir Putin gave a certain speech to a gathering of all the West’s elites in Munich that year.
The war previous to the one we are now in that originated at that time was ‘The War on Terror’. It’s goals were more limited in aspect, centralized in focus almost exclusively on the Middle East. Since 2007 it has been much expanded.
Russia was the first addition. Other players were added over time. China was progressively included and became by far the most important target of all, which it very definitely is today. All the targets have their teams within the network however and each will receive western media focus when it is found to be most effective.
This is not to say that tens of thousands of those working within mainstream media news are ‘in on’ a conspiracy to dupe their populations. This is not necessary. All you need is a certain frame of mind in the upper echelons of mainstream media news whether corporate or state. As Noam Chomsky has pointed out, those who are not of a certain frame of mind and who are likely to come from a different angle than that which is comfortable to those believing in the status quo are filtered out.
With ultra-moderate, rather elitist and establishment figures in all positions of influence within mainstream media the task of the network I am talking of becomes rather easy. This was why Operation Mockingbird in the States was able to be so effective in having certain narratives accepted as standard and others almost totally excluded. At that time the U.S. establishment was in war mode regarding the Soviet Union so getting editors and journalists to see it ‘their way’ was more or less child’s play.
The war mode now of course is of course largely focused on Russia as what the powers that be regard as the most believable villain. China is obviously the ultimate target for regime change however China is not so easily characterized as villainous... though this is changing. Having a villain is absolutely essential however as the post-9/11 villain program became perverted and rendered almost useless by a series of U.S. own goals.
The overall goal of America’s elites, as I have been at pains to point out in previous commentaries, is total security for their nation, something they have no doubt can only be achieved by having total oversight and manipulative control globally.
They need the western world to be in constant war mode for this. Therefore they need intermittent reminders that a dastardly foe is just waiting to cut their throats (or any threat which they can make believable).
They can’t create this war mode mania in any other feasible way than by communicating its necessity through mainstream media.
That is why I ask the question above...
