What is NATO for?

We know what it used to be for.

At least know what the powers-that-be of the time of its founding SAID it was for.

The defense of Europe from the Soviet Union.

But the Soviet Union is no more. Neither is the Warsaw Pact.

Both “threats” ended in the late Nineteen Eighties.

So what is NATO for NOW?

What do U.S. and European tax payers get for their money?

Why are they paying billions for the services rendered by NATO when the “threat” it was set up to defend against is no longer there?

Here is the official version:

Big bad old Russia is BACK and is an enormous threat!

The roaring, rabid bear of Russia has risen from its hibernation! Russia has reasserted herself and its blatant aggression against the West makes it a powerful adversary needing facing down! It wants to grab back and devour all its old satellite states so NATO has to stand guard as their defender throwing a protective arm across them to keep big bad old Russia back!

(((Sirens blaring across the western world)))

Is the official version plausible? To any truly thoughtful person hopefully not.

But too much was at stake to allow NATO be disbanded when its reason for existence suddenly vanished from sight.

Too much was invested in the entity known as NATO with its complex intertwining within the entire matrix of U.S.-E.U. superstructures at every possible level. The thought of extricating the vast U.S. influence that permeates Brussels and beyond was simply unthinkable.

Besides, what to do with all those generals and troops from across the entire gamut of 30 European and North American countries? Where would they go? What budgets could handle the sky-high salaries and the upkeep of tens of thousands of vehicles and all the associated weaponry?

And how to unlink everything and not damage those crucial U.S.-European connections (dependencies) and mutually beneficial get togethers that had become institutions deeply embedded in the western elite psyche?

Dispensing with NATO was clearly decided very quickly not to be an option.

A new enemy would be found instead.

And as we know, the new enemy chosen was... the old enemy, Russia.

Better said, it was a semi-convincing SIMULACRUM of the old Soviet enemy that was meticulously created.

Problem solved.

Then Ukraine happened and set the seal on it.

NATO was safe.

But the world wasn’t. Far from it.

Now NATO became the new Nazis continually threatening Russia. Operation Barbarossa vers. II began. The narrative spun from the top of NATO never varied.

“Look at that huge, evil, snarling bear! Look at what it did! No one’s safe! But fear not good people of Europe... We are here on guard!”

Now NATO had some “evidence” to back up its need to stick around.

It had the key. And as you know, it is FEAR that is always the key. The manufacturing of consent requires fear in massive and continual doses. It’s just what Dr. Josef Mengele ordered.

Just as a shepherd needs a sheepdog to keep the sheep under constant control so NATO needs fear to keep all European nations in line.

But just in case of any divergence there is another line of attack... to line pockets.

Those states on the front line benefit hugely in myriad ways from being part of NATO. Not the citizens of those states you understand, their elites. Their governments and governmental officials have access to quite a treasury to dip into. Then there is the additional leverage to exploit.

Junkets are another little perk on the side to being part of the club. You get to feel quite important, not just a nondescript political member of a tiny Baltic State. You get to puff yourself up, wear designer suits and be able to rely on the almost endless largess of generous NATO budgets. You get to feel important with a chair at those meetings, a key cog in the giant U.S. wheel that you hope will always be there to grind your enemies to dust.

A great deal rests on the continuance of NATO now and for all concerned. A whole host of salaries, perks, benefits, political power plays and strategic war games too. In those “games”, everyone can strut their stuff and impresses gullible population with show how "well “protected” they are. A ‘great deal’ indeed.

It’s win, win, win with continual verbal and visual spin, spin, spin.

The group-thought facade of imminent danger is carefully constructed and refreshed in real time. No one in Europe must be allowed a second in which to contemplate the disturbing reality that Russia is simply working on her economy, and only occasionally glancing over her shoulder to see what all that fuss is over there in Europe.

Western elites are in war mode. China, not Russia threatens their dominance. But Russia is a much closer and more convincing enemy than China. So Russia is IT. Russia is the key to keeping western populations in line.

And western intelligence agencies are expert at conjuring up all the fear their masters need.

And NATO will channel and reflect the ‘products’ of those agencies to amplify that fear to fever pitch levels if possible.
