Ukraine suffering ‘colossal’ losses in Kursk – Putin.
Washington ordered Kiev to hold on “at any cost” until the US election, the Russian president has said.
Ukraine has lost more than 30,000 troops in just three months of fighting since its large-scale incursion into Russia’s Kursk Region, President Vladimir Putin told the Valdai Forum on Thursday, adding that the Ukrainian people are paying a “terrible price” for Kiev’s decision to do Washington’s bidding.
Kiev launched an incursion into the region on August 6, deploying some of its best-equipped units. It was contained by the Russians and is steadily being pushed back, while suffering immense losses, according to Moscow.
“Just look at what is happening now at the front line… They raided Kursk Region... their losses are colossal – in just three months of fighting, the Kiev regime suffered more casualties than in the whole of last year: Over 30,000,” Putin said at the 21st annual meeting of the Valdai International Discussion Club in Sochi.

Putin added that the decision to invade Kursk makes little military sense and was dictated by purely “political considerations” imposed on Kiev by its “overseas” sponsors.
“Why are they sitting there, bearing such losses? Because they were ordered – from overseas – to hold on at any cost, at least until the US election, to show that all the efforts of the Democratic administration to support Ukraine were not in vain,” the Russian leader said.
“That’s the price. A terrible tragedy... both for the Ukrainian people and for the Ukrainian army.”

The Ukrainian incursion has come at a great cost to Kiev, not only in terms of manpower but also with regard to the dwindling stocks of Western-supplied weapons. The latest update from the Russian Ministry of Defense estimated Ukrainian losses at 29,600 casualties, 184 tanks, 106 infantry fighting vehicles, more than 1,000 armored vehicles, and scores of other pieces of heavy weaponry, including 26 military engineering vehicles.
Ukrainian officials claim that the operation has slowed Russian advances along the eastern front line. However, according to media estimates, Russian troops gained more ground in October than in any other month this year.

Russia Remains Ready for Contacts With Trump, But No Details Yet - Kremlin.
Russia remains ready for contacts with US President-elect Donald Trump, but there are currently no details on this issue, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on Friday.
On Thursday, during a speech at the Valdai Discussion Club Russian President Vladimir Putin congratulated Trump on winning the US presidential election, adding that Russia has nothing against resuming contacts with both US Trump and the heads of other Western countries. Later, Trump told NBC News that he had not yet spoken with Putin, but believes that they will.
"You and I also heard Mr. Trump's statement during the election campaign that he meant to call Putin himself. Therefore, this readiness, this openness, it remains, and yesterday it was emphasized by the head of the Russian state," Peskov told reporters.
There are no details of any planned conversation as of yet, Peskov clarified.
"There are certain statements so far, but the time has not come for concrete steps. It would be premature to talk about this," Peskov said, commenting on whether it is possible to talk about warming in relations between Russia and the United States against the background of Trump's election victory.
A presidential election took place in the United States on November 5. Republican candidate Donald Trump, who served as the US president from 2017-2021, was declared the winner by all leading race callers and networks. Democratic candidate Kamala Harris conceded defeat in an address to supporters.
The Electoral College will vote in accordance with the will of the voters on December 17, and the new Congress will approve the results of the vote on January 6. The presidential inauguration will take place on January 20.
There are no specific plans for holding a meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, Peskov said.
"No, [Russia] did not convey anything [Kiev] through Orban. And there are no specific plans to meet with Orban so far," Peskov told reporters when asked whether Putin conveyed any messages for Kiev through Orban.
Commenting on the possibility of phone talks between Putin and Orban, the official said that any phone conversation can be quickly agreed upon if necessary.

Putin Left Door Open to West - British Scholar.
Russian President Vladimir Putin delivered a speech at the plenary session of the 21st Annual Meeting of the Valdai International Discussion Club on Thursday.
While criticizing Western leaders for failing to serve the interests of their people, Vladimir Putin also sent a positive signal for the future, Geoffrey Roberts, emeritus professor of history at University College Cork, Ireland, told Sputnik.
"Very clearly, he [Putin] is signaling continued resistance to Western hegemony, Western dominance. He also makes his point, time and again, that European political leaders aren't serving their country's best interests […] by the policy that they're pursuing in terms of global politics," he noted.
However, at the same time, the Russian president "made it clear that Russia is not going to run after the West to restore relations, but the door is open if that's the choice that the West wants to make," the leading British scholar on Soviet diplomatic and military history underscored.
It's not clear whether US President-elect Donald Trump will pursue friendly relations with Russia, but the chances are much higher now, Roberts speculated.
"[Vladimir Putin] said that if Trump wants to improve relations, he is open to it," Roberts said after attending Putin's speech and a Q&A session at the Valdai Club.
"It would be a while before we know what's going to happen. I think a big factor will be who he [Trump] appoints to key positions in foreign policy and national security… I also think Trump will be very reluctant to increase the American commitment to NATO in any way and to see further expansion of NATO […] in Europe or elsewhere. But as I say, that's a matter for speculation,” the emeritus professor noted.
According to the academic, Putin was “very relaxed, very confident" throughout his appearance at the event, and “performed brilliantly in terms of being on top of his brief, having all these facts and figures at his fingertip, being very articulate, being very clear, answering questions directly.”
"He's responding on the spot to comments, statements, questions that the people at the meeting, the members of the Valdai Club, are making. I can't think of any other political leader in the world who could perform in that kind of way," Roberts remarked.

Russian Upper House Ratifies Comprehensive Strategic Partnership With North Korea.
Russia's Federation Council ratified on Wednesday the Treaty on Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between Russia and North Korea.
The bilateral treaty, signed in June during Russian President Vladimir Putin’s visit to North Korea, establishes a comprehensive strategic partnership between Moscow and Pyongyang based on the principles of mutual respect for each other's sovereignty and territorial integrity. The document also emphasizes the importance of non-interference in one another's internal affairs and the desire to create a just and multipolar world order.
The agreement shall replace the original Treaty of Friendship, Cooperation and Mutual Assistance between Russia and North Korea, signed in 2000, and be of unlimited duration.
According to Article 4 of the agreement, should one of the parties be subjected to armed aggression by any state or a group of states and find itself in a state of conflict, the other party shall immediately provide military and other forms of assistance with all available means in accordance with Article 51 of the United Nations Charter and in accordance with Russian and North Korean laws.
Article 8 of the treaty reads that the parties shall establish mechanisms for joint activities aimed at strengthening their defense capacities in pursuit of preemptive measures against the threat of war, thus fostering regional and global peace and security.
Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Andrey Rudenko has earlier said that this treaty does not amount to creating a military alliance.

VICTORY BELONGS TO RUSSIA: IT IS ONLY A MATTER OF TIME
Each day that passes makes a conclusive Russian victory in the Donbass and beyond more certain. As Russia bolsters her forces, and weaponry, those of Ukraine decrease. Russian forces gain ready access to rest and recuperation as troop numbers increase. The increasingly exhausted and demoralised Ukrainian troops have an ever decreasing prospect of such respite. This situation is likely to bring them to complete breakdown as Russia unleashes the firepower of the more modern and advanced weaponry that is arriving with the newly mobilised Russian troops.
The various Ukrainian offensives are now weak when confronted by the reinforced Russian lines. A few futile efforts achieve quite miserable results before fire reigns down on the Ukrainian troops and they are forced back to their starting positions.
And now, all this being said, we have arrived at the wet, and later, freezing conditions where these pathetic Ukrainian forces will be subject to myriad forms of abject misery with death and injury all around them while they lie sodden or frozen, abandoned to their fate by Kiev.
The pitiable young and old of Ukraine have been frogmarched to their deaths as cannon-fodder while the bestial elites of the collective West urge their "president" to add more to their number there at the gates of Hell and their doom. We must feel for the majority of them as they are not the Nazis we revile, in most part they are decent men, fathers, sons, brothers, husband and uncles, who no doubt saw through the coup of 2014 for what it was. But sadly, their fate seems sealed.
Nothing will stop Russia now. Every factor favours them. Victory will be Russia's. In Donbass and beyond and in due course across the world.
Victory belongs to Russia: It is now only a matter of time.

WILL DONALD J. TRUMP & END THE RUSSO-UKRAINIAN WAR?
The Donald will need all the luck in the world & a bunch of savvy to make a difference. He has used charm in the past, but charm alone is unlikely to be effective. Will threats do the trick?
In geopolitics things rarely move along straight lines. Those who expect to be able to predict this or that national leader are likely to be disappointed. The election of Donald J. Trump is being welcomed by some on erroneous grounds on the belief that he will be predictable in supporting their way of thinking and forwarding their desires. Of course it may work out that way more than it does not but no one should fal for the idea that this will occur. Donald Trump is unpredictable other than on one single point. He will, at any particular moment, do what he perceives as benefiting both the United States of America and, also important this, himself.
Some believe he will shut the war in Ukraine down, almost immediately as he has sworn too. However, the word is currently that he intends, at least initially, to take a diametrically opposite path and commit further billions to a surge. This makes sense for him if not the USA as it gives him some political cover. After supplying the Kiev regime with a last, enormous weapons package he can, with some conviction, say that he went the extra mile for Ukraine, that this last enormous effort to “save” the country failed. He can say the USA (and he) did everything humanly possible… but it failed. The failure will eventually then be explained, after a shortish delay, to be the fault of Zelensky and his people.
After the big PR push/surge Trump will call upon Zelensky to face the fact of defeat, that the USA and its allies did all they could but due to whatever excuses they can find other than Russia’s military strength, the end goal envisaged was simply too hard to accomplish. Maximum pressure will then be applied to Zelensky to either engage with Russia to find terms of agreement or… to resign and let someone else perform this task. Will this work out and at least bring about a temporary ceasefire. Maybe. But I doubt it. Most likely Vladimir Putin will simply respond “Bring it on. Do your worst.” Russia has seen off all else Zelensky’s sponsors have come up with. He will be eminently confident he can see of all else.
No one should have any doubt that Donald J. Trump is perfectly capable of making bad calls and very bad decisions. One need only look at his picks for the most powerful positions in his cabinet last time; John Bolton and Mike Pompeo for instance. If he has learned nothing from that experience then he is quite capable of making the very same mistakes again. We will have to wait and see who he taps for the most prominent positions in his cabinet this time. I said in 2016 before he took office but before his inauguration that he would struggle to find the right people. Since 9/11 all the peacemakers have been shown the door while that same door was wide open for warmongers. How many peacemakers or bridge-builders have entered the ranks of Washington’s top dogs since Trump last entered the White House. Damn few if any.
No Trump will try to live up to his boast that he could bring peace in Ukraine within 24 hours. We can only hope that he has Plan B, C, D and E ready and waiting when Plan A fails as I am certain it will. Trump is not said to be interested in detail or nuance, he believes in gut feelings, spur of the moment decisions and more than anything, that which will bring a positive headline or two for him. With the Russo-Ukraine war he has arguably arrived at a problem too far where such off the cuff solutions require much more finessing than those he can think up off the top of his head. But try to solve this thing he will. He said he would and the media would just love to see him fail right off the bat. This would be about the worst start to his second try at being U.S. president and not a good look, not a good look at all. Wish him luck though, we must…
