THE UKRAINE PEACE PLAN STEMS FROM THE AGGRESSOR WEST
In response to the newly emerged 28-point Peace Plan to end the Ukraine conflict Kaja Kallas, the EU foreign affairs spokesperson was scathing in dismissing it. For her there it all comes down to this: there is only one aggressor, Russia, and one victim, Ukraine. For her it is simply a matter of weakening Russia and continuing to support the Ukrainian regime.
Without doubt Kallas believes that Russia launched a wholly “unprovoked” attack on Ukraine in 2022 and that there was no reason for it but pure empire-building. However, anyone who has taken care to look at the years before 2022, back to the winter of 2013-14 and beyond knows just how totally misleading such a statement is. In fact it is an outright lie.
Tragically the Ukrainian (and Russian) people have been suffering over almost four years now from a situation that should never have come about. Those who instigated this entire tragic conflict have now put together a peace plan to try and end it. This conflict was inevitable when the USA, EU and UK decided they would use Ukraine to weaken Russia.
We can argue all day about what the Ukrainian presidents have done since 2014 and what the Russian president did since that time also but in the end it is my conviction from watching all that has transpired since the winter of 2013-14 that it is the leadership in the western world, specifically the USA, UK and EU that have brought this catastrophe down on everyone.
The clue is in the past, a past where the political, intelligence and military elites of the USA conceived that it was their duty and responsibility to intervene anywhere around the world where western interests were at risk. This hands-on attitude is what has caused huge upheavals from the end of WWII to the present day. Whatever one thinks of this attitude and the myriad acts which follow on from it, whether you think it is right or wrong I think you would find it hard to deny that it does exist.
As North American professor John J. Mearsheimer has said, the USA is a ‘Crusader State’. It’s elites conceive themselves as the princes saving the beautiful young princess from the dragon, the cavalry coming over the hill to save the situation, all of this. Right or wrong that’s how it is. So Russia was seen as a primary focus, the next dragon to be slayed if you like.
Pushing NATO toward Russia was the USA’s policy, that of the UK and EU also. There may well have been idealistic and positive reasons for this but anyone looking at Russia’s history where it was invaded time and time again knew that this policy would NOT turn out well. And so we have seen.
From 2014 there was a diplomatic solution beckoning. The Russian president worked hard to achieve a successful outcome which time after time was blockaded by intransigence on the other side. His efforts lasted up to 2021 when the president of Ukraine proclaimed he was no longer interested in the process.
Back in 2014 the Russian-speakers of south-eastern Ukraine had seen their right to elect the president and government of their choice wrenched away from them. At the same time violent forces with extreme views regarding Ukrainian nationalism appeared to be in the vanguard of this ending of their right to live, as Ukrainians, in the way they always had, close to Russia and seeing great value in Russia’s actions of WWII and in their close relationship with Russia.
Listening to the new president and government in Kiev can it really surprise anyone that they were grievously upset and wished to do something to preserve their normal, everyday way of life that had been usual for them up to this point? Their right to engage in the democratic process in Ukraine was gone. Their way of life was under threat from forces more than willing to use ultra-violence against them, to ethnically cleanse them from their homes and even to murder them in their beds. For the sake of themselves and their families they had to do something to protect themselves and defend their way of life. So, they peacefully took over the running of their regions and created two new republics, those of Lugansk and Donetsk.
With the extreme nationalists demanding only the Ukrainian language be used and those in the Ukrainian parliament, the Rada, seeming very willing to comply with this demand what were they supposed to do? Sit and wait to be made second class citizens in their own land, or worse still to be forced to leave or risk they and their families being attacked by the extremists?
So, this aspect of the entire horrendously tragic conflict should be kept in our thoughts if we are determined to seek a full resolution to this war. Without the authorities in Kiev or their western sponsors understanding the feelings of the people on ‘the other side’ only ever more war will result.
And we must never forget the progenitors of this entire situation, those who targeted Russia (for whatever reason) by pushing Ukraine to join the western sphere of influence regardless of the costs of that process which we have seen playing out over the past three and a quarter years.
The 28-point Peace Plan may be the last hope. It appears deeply flawed… but it is perhaps at least a reasonable starting point for discussions on all sides. It will inevitably change through negotiations if it gets that far, but all sides should work to improve it so that this tragic conflict ends and is never restarted.
VICTORY BELONGS TO RUSSIA: IT’S ONLY A MATTER OF TIME.
Each day that passes makes a conclusive Russian victory in the Donbass and beyond more certain. As Russia bolsters her forces, and weaponry, those of Ukraine decrease. Russian forces gain ready access to rest and recuperation as troop numbers increase. The increasingly exhausted and demoralized Ukrainian troops have an ever decreasing prospect of such respite. This situation will bring them to complete breakdown as Russia unleashes the firepower of the more modern and advanced weaponry that is arriving along with the newly mobilized Russian troops.
The various Ukrainian offensives are now weak when confronted by the reinforced Russian lines. A few futile efforts achieve miserable results before fire reigns down on the Ukrainian troops and they are forced back to their original positions and beyond.
And now we have arrived at the wet, and later, freezing conditions where the Ukrainian forces will be subject to myriad forms of abject misery, with death and injury all around them while they lie sodden or frozen, abandoned to their fate by Kiev.
We must feel for the majority of Ukrainian troops as they are, in most part now, not of the Nazi-mentality deserving of revulsion, in most part decent men, fathers, sons, brothers, husband and uncles, who no doubt saw through the coup of 2014 for what it was. But sadly, their fate for now appears sealed, condemned to death by the political and media elites of the West.
Nothing will stop Russia now. Every factor favors them. Victory will be Russia’s. In Donbass and by reputation and respect gained, across the entire world.
