THE DREAM OF GLOBAL LIBERAL HEGEMONY IS LEADING US TO A TERRIFYING GLOBAL CATASTROPHE
As Noam Chomsky has recently pointed out, we are now living through the most dangerous time in world history. The stakes are as high as they could possibly be and the danger we are all in has never been more real and more terrifying to contemplate.
What has brought us here to the brink of species annihilation?
What are the factors that could be SO important that there is no sign of any wish to draw back from the brink?
Who is responsible for this situation?
Naturally I can only provide my own views on the above. You will have to use your best judgement and whatever reliable information you can access to form your own personal views on these subjects.
In my view the answers to all the above questions are clear. I base them on over two decades of careful observation, including intent scrutiny of the situation in Ukraine from the winter of 2013-14.
In my mind there is no doubt about who and what has led us to this place and time, the political elites of the United States of America.
And the motivation to bring us here?
The unshakeable belief within the U.S. political elite (and those in allied nations such as Britain) is that they have a mission to bring liberal democracy to every nation worldwide and by whatever means are deemed necessary.
On the face of it this is an idealistic goal with an apparently extremely positive outcome in mind, all nations at peace with one other, no human rights abuses anywhere and the world will be safe for liberal democracy (i.e. there will then be an absence of any fear that one nation will attack another or that authoritarian regimes will arise).
This all sounds well and good, however, as Professor John J. Mearsheimer has pointed out in his lecture on liberal hegemony, ‘The Great Delusion’, these goals are and will remain, impossible to achieve, due primarily to the nationalism that inevitably arises to confront those using war against them, those who arrive as ‘liberators’ but who sooner or later are perceived as ‘occupiers’.
The war the elites of the western world are waging appear fully convinced that their cause is a completely righteous one. I suspect they are largely genuine when they make statements and take actions that further this war that they are waging, conceiving they are doing “good” based on the positive outcomes named above (or having convinced themselves that this is so). I find it highly unlikely that a mere cadre of evil people constituting successive administrations and governments could lead such a consistently supported war and generate the kind of support they obviously have.
The much more likely reality in my view is that those who hold these views do so because of the lives they have led within a closely confined elite milieu via extremely rich families, education at the best universities, military academies and so forth. These elitist views arise from a combination of elitist upbringing and an environment where constant American mythologies of exceptionalism and British mythologies of supremacy permeate their beings from the very beginning of their lives on through to their arrival at positions of power.
Mearsheimer points out in his lecture that their goal of installing liberal democracies in every country globally is ultimately a delusion, that nationalist forces will always be stronger. And so it is proving.
Ukraine was merely the latest in a long line of tools and stepping stones being used to reach the impossible goal of the western powers described above. Afghanistan, Iraq, Libya, Syria and Ukraine… all stepping stones that are seen to lead to the rest, clearly Russia and China but also the complete catalogue, Iran, Cuba, Nicaragua, Venezuela, Yemen and the rest. It is a truly global project.
You may feel that even though the project is doomed to failure it is a noble project to attempt it.
But look at the downsides.
Look at where we are now. And look at the trail of death and devastation the USA and its allies have left across the Middle East in furtherance of this goal. Look too at the effects for the European nations now already being felt in terms of rising prices. The Europeans of course will be affected much less that the nations of the global south who are already suffering hugely from their seemingly permanent status as impoverished nations.
All the negatives above contained within the factors above of course pale into insignificance when compared to the place we are arriving at now with the Doomsday Clock surely at one second before midnight. There is no sign of any pullback from the present increasing escalation.
For the USA, UK and their allies to pull back now would represent a pulling back from the goal they have set themselves stated above. In fact the present circumstance is quite likely seen as exactly the kind of instability needed to achieve their goal, to undermine Russia as a major target before moving on to China.
But the risks, as you cannot help but understand, are absolutely enormous.
Naturally neither Russia nor China will submit to the war quite clearly being waged against them.
If the belief in Washington and London’s Whitehall is that they will bow and submit, lay down their weapons and surrender in my view, and, I suspect, in most non-obsessed minds believing in ‘the liberal hegemony project’, will agree.
This leaves only one possible outcome if so, the third global war and the very last one.
WWIII is already ongoing however and has been in my estimation since the events of 9/11 at the latest. Previous to this event the war was fought at a much less frenetic pace with a far greater degree of diplomacy involved… but in my view it has been moving forward at a this slower pace compared to now since the end of WWII.
Can anything stop the juggernaut, the runaway train we are now on toward nuclear annihilation, or at the very least the kind of general worldwide suffering of a kind never before seen?
As I see it only Russia and China prevailing to such a degree that the obsessional political elites of the West are fully quarantined by their absence of economic and military power, so overwhelmed by debt and internal dissolution and protest, weakened by the results of their own economic and financial weapons against others, that they must finally throw up their hands in acknowledgement that their great delusional dream of global liberal hegemony is unattainable and irredeemably over.
