THE UKRAINIAN PUBLIC RELATIONS BLITZ & WESTERN FAKE NEWS
Objectivity in war mode is non-existent. Providing unbiased and impartial information is no longer perceived as important in the political sphere nor in that of mass media. The only important elements to receive widespread publicity are those narratives and talking points serving to assist state objectives.
In the present war mode milieu of western states along with their allies and proxies, the Ukrainian regime is making maximum use of public relations companies and lobbyists, further hyping the already enormous anti-Russian fervour in the West. As many as 150 public relation entities and lobbyists are helping frame the required message concerning Ukraine and Russia.
In addition to the above it is now being admitted that fake news, unsubstantiated rumours and targeted misinformation is being deployed by both political and mass media elites in the West, weaponising what once was considered ‘news’.
Naturally a minority, arguably a growing minority, within the western world have recognised the phenomena that seeks in many diverse ways to condition their responses in support of the war being waged on multiple levels against Russia. This minority can be seen to best effect on Twitter and, even though restrictions have increasingly been placed on independents, Facebook.
In the mainstream however there is an almost universal acceptance of pro-Ukraine and anti-Russian memes with both Ukrainian activists and their hired public relations lobbyists working round the clock to maintain support for their causes.
Western states have hardly needed any encouragement to generate anti-Russian policies, generating new financial and economic weapons on an almost daily basis with which to attack the foundations of the Russian economy. Undoubtedly the required financial resources needed by the Ukrainian regime for their additional input comes from western state budgets and therefore simply constitutes another, less obvious, arm of western state propaganda.
What will remain of trust in the institution of journalism in the West when this is all over is anyone’s guess. By prostituting themselves to the anti-Russian cause, broadcasting and printing a completely partial and biased rendering of news from Ukraine cannot but damage any future appeals for belief in their integrity from them. This “integrity” has been seen not to be inviolate and indeed bears no aspect of integrity whatsoever.
This is not the first time western mainstream media has submitted to the demands of western states however. Post 9/11 this has become a common feature where the national interests of western states have demanded support for regime change wars. The effect on the reading and viewing public across the West is largely unknown. Certainly a great many put their trust in well-known media institutions such as the BBC, CNN, Washington Post, the New York Times and their peers but the suspicion must be that the more incisive among western populations must feel unease about present coverage of Ukraine at the very least.
The world is dividing into two. Whether this is only a temporary but long-lasting situation or a permanent one there can surely be no doubt that the post-fact milieu the West now exists within will be with us for at least the next several decades. On non-geopolitical matters of no particular interest to western state or corporate elites we will no doubt see a business as usual aspect to western news coverage. But in regard to what is now clearly a world war between the collective west and much of Eurasia the parallels with George Orwell’s novel ‘1984’ will quite clearly become ever more evident.
The times are past when the western powers could rely on defeating far weaker powers than they. Now we have reached the main event to those rehearsals. Now they have begun to wage the final world war, the war to set the stage for the way the world will be run from this time onward. The ultimate conflict will come if and when they win the present one against Russia. That conflict will of course be with China.
The public relations blitz at the time of the full economic and financial war against China and all military engagement threatened or enacted at that time will see western populations fed a similar diet of one-sided, highly biased and often completely false misinformation and disinformation seen currently. The recognition of Taiwan as a sovereign nation will likely be the provocation used to draw China into an invasion after which the PR deluge against it by all those attacking Russia now will begin.
The USA has proven it has a great disposition for rinsing and repeating its past successful tactics. Using its relationship to a complicit western mass media gives it a huge advantage when spreading the message it requires a near total belief in. You have to wonder if that effort to rinse and repeat such tactics against China will survive the growing skepticism concerning the present effort against Russia, or will the majority of sleepers imbibing that narcotic begin to wake?
In any event, the power of public relations as it relates to propaganda will inevitably be brought to bear time and time again as the collective west seeks to enforce its beloved concept of liberal hegemony worldwide.
