THE WEST IS OPTING ITSELF OUT BY ITS DENIAL OF RUSSIA’S RIGHTS & REASONS
First posted 16th March 2022.
The western policy toward Russia has not changed, it has only been amplified.
The trope being sold to justify this is pretty obvious whether you think it is justified or not.
The policy is to deny Russia has any right to have a say… in almost anything. That goes for its sphere of influence to its national security, that of its loved ones and its wish to live without NATO leering constantly on its border.
The trope being sold? That Putin is Hitler and the Russian military are the Nazis.
By Putin being Hitler there is nothing to be said for the viewpoints or needs of the ‘other side’. The framing is one of total evil, a la the actual Hitler and actual Nazis.
If you think Putin is Hitler and the Russian military are Nazis then read no further as you won’t have any patience for what I have to say next.
Putin is not the expansionist western elites have been insisting upon. And the Russian military, despite all the articles trying to convince you, is taking great care to avoid civilian casualties and damage to vital infrastructure in Ukraine. Together Putin and the Russian military are also attempting to maintain the present political hierarchy of Ukraine as an intact and useful entity. Useful that is in the building of a new Ukraine without any form of extremism that constantly bars its way to normality.
Without those Ukrainians who now govern Ukraine there can be no new Ukraine free of extremism. Russia will certainly not repeat the fundamental error of judgment the USA and its allies made in Iraq of removing all Ba’athist party members from positions of importance. Russia wants a relatively smooth exit with all systems in place when it leaves. Again, to use another example of U.S. policy, certainly nothing like the pandemonium and panic that characterized the western exit from Afghanistan.
But will any Russian view, description of the overall battle plan and ultimate goals, on-the-ground tactics and general policy in the waging of this war, invasion, incursion or whatever you wish to call it, receive any attention in the West? Not in the present atmosphere where jingoism pervades one end of the political and media spectrum to the other. Not where Putin is Hitler and the Russian military are Nazis. Such broad strokes and simplistic assertions are indeed much more reminiscent of the views, words and actions of Hitler and his Nazis in respect of the Jews. Wholly bad without any redeeming feature.
However, Russia is not going anywhere, and most likely neither is Putin, nor are the reasons why he and the Russian hierarchy are doing what they are doing in Ukraine. But give any credence to those reasons (no matter if they are sincerely held and explain so very much) they cannot be spoken of within the western mainstream.
Blind revulsion based on a complete absence of the above ‘other side’ to all this will leave western elites out in the cold and all hope now ultimately rests with those in the Ukrainian negotiating team and their president, Vladimir Zelensky.
