THE WEST: EMPIRE OF EVIL CONSEQUENCES
The crusader states of the liberal West crushed the Soviet Union after decades of relentless pressure and limitless resources. They were at the peak of their power...just as all was about to be lost.
They believed they had the world at their feet. The Soviet Union was dead and Russia all but buried. China was struggling, unable to provide a decent living for all her people. Now the West’s domination would be total. It was the unipolar moment. Only one superpower now existed and that superpower would take full advantage of its position of supreme dominance. The empire’s military bases spanned the globe, its influence reached into every economic, political and social space where it could wield its awesome power with impunity. The task it had set itself appeared to have been accomplished beyond all question. The empire believed itself beyond all risk of its power being diminished, or even seriously threatened, ever again.
The resources of the entire planet were now perceived as the empire’s for the taking. There was now no peer competitor to challenge them. The Soviet Union had threatened its interests and so had been systematically driven to extinction. The only peer competitor the empire had ever had was now rendered null and void. The wind at its back the only task remaining was to transform the rest of the world into its image. Every nation was to be made to conform to liberal, western democratic values and system of governance by whatever means were deemed necessary. One by one they would be infiltrated, influenced and indoctrinated. Where necessary they would be undermined by soft power until, their resistance weakened, they agreed to all the empire’s demands. Where necessary brute force would do the job.
Now was the empire’s moment and it was determined to take full advantage.
You can perhaps imagine the exultation felt at that moment, Russia was humbled, its economy and social structure in ruins, the ex-members of the Warsaw Pact were all calling in unison to join the West and the glorious capitalist fantasy they had for so long imagined and longed for. The western empire was almighty. It was the end of history. Liberal democracy had prevailed. The future belonged to the winners.
And now, visualize their surprise just a few short years later...
Russia, rising like a phoenix from the ashes of the Soviet Union has a president asserting his nation will cooperate with the West, but not be its slave. China, appropriating a capitalist approach while maintaining communist control now rises fast from impoverishment to great riches and ever-increasing power.
Then came 9/11.
Suddenly, what had been seen as the end of history with the western victors assured of world domination and unlimited exploitation of the entire globe the empire’s overwhelming victory starts to look distinctly shaky. The moments of chest-thumping speeches declaring an overwhelming victory start to look premature. Everything surrounding the ‘New World Order’ concept begins to come into question.
The disappointment and anger at the loss of the unipolar moment, that moment of supreme victory and confidence, is fierce beyond words to describe and and imagination to visualize. Just at the moment of complete victory all was so suddenly snatched away. There would be no absolute glory, no march forward to the empire’s expected domination and no endless access to global resource exploitation.
How could this possibly be?
Someone would have to pay.
First, every nation with even the slightest indication of opposition to western power would be brought to heel, have its system of governance leveled and rebuilt, no matter what it took. Whatever story was needed to do this would be concocted and compliant mass media used to generate public support. With all elite power sources aligned across the West the empire would be unstoppable. Afghanistan, Iraq, Libya fell in quick succession... though resistance lingered.
It was when the resistance in Afghanistan finally prevailed that doubts about the empire’s power began to be heard. So much blood and treasure had been expended and the ability to make others pay had clearly diminished. It was time to use Islamist proxy forces to do the empire’s dirty work for it. This was seen in Syria, though four years in Russia pushed these forces back, cornering them in Idlib Province. Ultimately however, the empire would prevail in Syria using yet another Islamist force to finally achieve regime change.
The empire, while still determined to achieve global dominance hit yet another roadblock. The latest tool designed to eliminate the spectacularly rising Russia, Ukraine, was brought into play. Russia, endlessly provoked, finally took the bait long planned to entice it. Now every military, financial, economic and media weapon would be used against it and would surely bring Russia, the Russian president and the Russian people to their knees. Only it didn’t. In fact Russia only got stronger. It was the USA and its allies in Europe that became weaker instead. While Ukraine was destroyed.
Imagine the desperation. The unipolar moment was gone. That moment of extreme exultation was snatched away so excruciatingly soon after it arrived and after so much work to achieve it. The New American Century was not to be. The depth of the frustration is now immense and all possible means are contemplated. Free speech is now under immense threat. Those who deliver analyses that do not conform to the empire’s requirements are being sanctioned. Europe’s foremost powers now spak of a war with Russia within a matter of a few years. Democracy itself is being fast abandoned in favour of ever more totalitarian methodologies. Frustration at their every plan going wrong while a multipolar world rises is driving the western empire to distraction. Recklessness is superseding all else as the abject fear of losing any hope of future power and influence permeates the empire’s core.
Bitter at the glow of victory over the Soviet Union and the prospect of attaining total global domination being snatched from its grasp the western empire is now at its most frustrated and dangerous. Now losing in Ukraine, having weakened itself with its last regime change gamble, it turns to ever more desperate and destructive means to shore up its fast-draining power base. Who know what it is now capable of in its blind, futile fury? In its recklessness the use of NATO troops in Ukraine is quite possible. And when they are also defeated the use of nuclear weapons. The dying beast that is the western empire may well finally conceive that no world at all is better than a world it cannot control. The acts of insanity which follow may see the final end of an empire that has been a plague upon our world for generations.
Those who survive the empire’s death throes will certainly not think it appropriate for a single moment to grieve its passing.
