There are few things that happen in war that reflect anything good about humanity, most are utterly horrific. There can be heroism and it has been correctly pointed to as such where it takes place.
Most of what happens during wartime the general public is shielded from.
There has always been a debate concerning whether it might not be best to show the horrors of war in the hope that we would all be so horrified that we would refuse to engage in it any longer. It has to be said however that the powers-that-be have increasingly sanitised war both by refusing to let its horrors be displayed (on social media platforms for instance) and by glorifying it in shoot-em-up movies where bloodless deaths (or even these days vicariously bloody deaths) are celebrated. The black and white depiction of the perfectly good and the perfectly bad seems irresistible to Hollywood producers at least and to most others in the kind of films I refer to, it must be said.
We like to feel we are wholly on the “good” side against those totally on the “bad” side. But life is never that simple, is it?
I bring the following very current case to you. You must decide (an easy decision I’d say) as to who is most “bad” in this case.
It is a horrible, stomach-churning watch and I couldn’t blame you if you only watched the first few seconds as I did. Perhaps those with far stronger stomachs than I will watch more, or even watch all of it…
I would simply ask, what kind of a world do we live in when this can happen?
Have we moved hardly an inch or millimetre from 1939-45?
Why do we live still in a world where such things can occur?
'Ukraine is taking wounded captured Russian soldiers laying them out and shooting them in the legs and groin. While they are bleeding out, they're putting bags over their heads and kicking them in the face until they die. This is Zelensky's Ukraine in all its glory.'
'Russian POWs tortured by Ukrainian troops. Nothing has changed since WW2 Ukraine is a Nazi country.'

*TORTURE AND MURDER OF PRISONERS OF WAR*
And this is why we hunt Nazis.
