You may recall that Russia issued a stern warning to Kiev that if it persisted in targeting locations within Russia it would in turn begin targeting control and decision-making centres within Ukraine.
I have once concern and that is that Zelensky is to hard assed or maybe too dumb to realize he will destroy the whole Ukraine if he does not negotiate a peace agreement.
This war is now wasting lives destroying infrastructure for no reason at all.
The weapons being used are mostly old weapons of the West but the lives lost a humans ,on both sides, who have family and friends who mourn them.
I strongly suspect that Zelensky is acting rationally in that he is protecting himself (and no doubt his family) by acting as he does. He knows he is virtually certain to be assassinated if he is the one to capitulate and agree the loss of sovereign Ukrainian territory. This is due to the degree of power the extremist ideologues have in Ukraine. They may ultimately be cowards when faced with certain death but if free to act as they have done in western Ukraine since 2014 I have no doubt their judgement on Zelensky would be severe and administered quite swiftly. Their prowess regarding assassination was shown in the killing of two heroes of the Donbass republics, Givi and 'Motorola', murdered in their homes within the Donbass controlled by the pro-Russian self-defence forces. Where there is a will there's a way as they say/ Zelensky I believe is covering his arse at the expense of thousands of Ukrainian lives lost and ever more Ukrainian territory.
